Diocesan Policies for ELCA Pastors Serving
The Orderly Exchange of Pastors and Priests Under Called to Common Mission
The Transitional Ministries Officer serves the diocese by assisting congregations in their discernment process for deployment to issue a call for an ordained minister to covenant with them in ministry. This process involves the congregation through a search team and Vestry. It involves the diocese through the Bishop and Diocesan Office. It involves the Church as a whole through the Episcopal Church's Office for Transitional Ministry.
Change in an ordained minister is sometimes a fear that looms in the hearts of church members and vestry members alike. If the process is to listen to what God wants for the Church, God's own people, then hearts and minds can focus on God's will. We know change is inevitable so the guiding principle for discernment and transition should be hope and the standard tool should be prayer.
To begin a search for an ordained minister to covenant with a congregation, contact the Bishop and Canon for Transitional Ministries who will working with the congregation to identify the congregation's gifts and call to ministry, which ultimately will be translated into the call.
